SS 304 / 304L Stainless Steel Sheets, Plates & Coils — Supplier & Stockist in Mumbai

SS 304 (also known as Grade 1.4301 in European nomenclature, or UNS S30400) is the most widely used stainless steel in the world. It belongs to the austenitic 300 series and is prized for its excellent corrosion resistance, formability, weldability and hygienic surface — making it the default material across food processing, architecture, pharmaceutical, chemical and general fabrication industries.

Bhilai Steel Industries stocks SS 304 and SS 304L sheets, plates and coils in a comprehensive range of thicknesses (0.3mm to 100mm), widths (up to 2500mm) and surface finishes — from the standard industrial 2B finish to mirror-polished 8K for architectural and decorative use.

304 vs 304L: The “L” variant (SS 304L, UNS S30403) has a maximum carbon content of 0.03% vs 0.08% in standard 304. This lower carbon prevents sensitisation — the precipitation of chromium carbides at weld heat-affected zones — making 304L the preferred choice for welded structures exposed to corrosive environments. In most applications, 304L can be used wherever 304 is specified.
