Bhilai Steel Industries stocks stainless steel round bars and rods in a comprehensive range of grades — from standard SS 304 and 316 through to high-strength 17-4 PH, 15-5 PH, Duplex 2205 and martensitic grades SS 410 and 420. Available in diameters from 3mm through to 500mm, in hot-rolled black, bright-drawn, peeled, centreless-ground and polished finishes.
Cut-to-length service is available at our Mumbai facility — no minimum order for cut pieces. All bars are supplied with EN10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate, chemical and mechanical test reports, and hardness certificates where applicable.

Black (Hot Rolled)
Scale surface from hot rolling. Lowest cost. For further forging or rough machining where surface is not critical.
Bright Drawn
Cold-drawn through die. Smooth, tight tolerance (h9/h11). Best value for precision machined components up to ~100mm.
Peeled / Turned
Lathe-turned to remove scale and surface defects. For large diameters >100mm where bright drawing is not feasible.
Centreless Ground
Ground to h6/h7 tolerance with Ra <0.8μm. For precision shafts, measuring tools, high-speed rotating applications.

SS Round Bar — FAQs
What is the difference between SS 304 and SS 316 round bar for pump shafts?
For pump shafts handling clean water or non-corrosive fluids, SS 304 is adequate. For sea water, brine, chemical or pharmaceutical service, SS 316 or 316L is always preferred due to its molybdenum content providing better pitting corrosion resistance. For highest strength combined with corrosion resistance in offshore or subsea pump applications, Duplex 2205 is specified.
Can you supply 17-4 PH round bar in H900 or H1025 condition?
Yes — 17-4 PH (S17400) round bar is available in solution-annealed (Condition A) and in age-hardened conditions H900, H925, H1025, H1075 and H1150. Condition and hardness certification is provided with each heat. Lead time is typically 4–8 weeks for age-hardened conditions.
What is the largest diameter SS round bar you can supply?
We stock bright-drawn bar up to 200mm and peeled bar up to 500mm. Above 500mm, forged billets in SS 304, 316, 321 and Duplex 2205 can be sourced on indent. Contact us with your diameter requirement for availability and pricing.
