Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings — BW, SW & Screwed | Supplier & Stockist in Mumbai

Bhilai Steel Industries supplies a comprehensive range of stainless steel pipe fittings — butt weld (BW), socket weld (SW) and screwed types — covering elbows, equal and reducing tees, concentric and eccentric reducers, caps, stub ends and crosses in all standard SS and Duplex grades.

All fittings are manufactured per ASTM A403 (BW), ASTM A182 (forged SW & screwed), and MSS SP-43 (lightweight BW) standards, with dimensional inspection and EN10204 3.1 MTC supplied as standard on every consignment.

BW vs SW vs Screwed: Butt Weld (BW) fittings are butt-welded to pipe — for sizes ½″ and above, all pressure classes. Socket Weld (SW) fittings have a socket bore into which the pipe is inserted then fillet-welded — for high-pressure small-bore ≤ 3″. Screwed fittings thread onto the pipe end — no welding required, for low-pressure utility and instrumentation lines.

Fitting Types

Stainless Steel Pipe Fitting Types — Descriptions & Use Cases

Fitting Type Description Available As Typical Application
Elbow 90° Short & Long Radius Changes flow direction by 90°. LR (1.5D) is standard; SR (1D) for space-constrained layouts. BW · SW · Screwed Process piping direction changes, headers
Elbow 45° Changes flow direction by 45°. Used where a less abrupt turn is needed. BW · SW · Screwed Slope changes in gravity-flow lines
Equal Tee All three outlets same bore. Splits or combines flow in one direction. BW · SW · Screwed Branch connections — all equal size
Reducing Tee One branch outlet smaller than run. Eliminates need for a reducer on the branch. BW · SW Branch take-offs at reduced bore
Concentric Reducer Same centreline — for vertical pipes, pump suctions. BW Pump suctions, vertical runs
Eccentric Reducer Flat bottom — for horizontal pipes, allows pigging, drains freely. BW Horizontal lines, pig-able lines, drainage
Cap Closes the end of a pipe. Domed or flat end. BW · SW · Screwed Pipe end closures, hydrostatic test caps
Stub End Lap Joint End Butt-welded to pipe; used with a Lap Joint flange — allows flange rotation for bolt alignment. BW (Short Type A & Long Type B) Bi-metallic joints, dismantlable piping
Cross (4-way) Four-way fitting — one inlet, one outlet, two branches at 90°. BW · SW · Screwed 4-way junction headers

FAQs

SS Pipe Fittings — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between LR (Long Radius) and SR (Short Radius) elbows?

A Long Radius (LR) elbow has a centreline radius of 1.5 × the nominal pipe diameter (1.5D). It offers lower pressure drop and is the standard for most piping. A Short Radius (SR) elbow has a 1D centreline radius — more compact, used where space is restricted, but causes higher pressure drop and turbulence. LR elbows are specified by default unless SR is explicitly called out on the isometric.

Are SS 316L fittings interchangeable with SS 304 in dimension and schedule?

Yes — SS 316L and SS 304 butt weld fittings share identical dimensions per ASME B16.9 for any given nominal size and schedule. They are dimensionally interchangeable but not metallurgically — ensure the grade matches the pipe material and service requirement.

Do you supply Duplex 2205 BW fittings with PWHT documentation?

Duplex 2205 fittings (ASTM A815 WP-S32205) are supplied in the solution-annealed condition as required — no PWHT after welding is typically required for Duplex. We supply with ferrite content report and hardness test certificate in addition to EN10204 3.1 MTC.
